Rotations and Call Schedules
The following schedule will give applicants a general idea of the rotation schedule projected for 2010–2011.
During the first year of training, UCSD night call is taken in the hospital every third to fourth night and interns are released from service following call. During the second and third years, each resident takes approximately three 24-hour calls per month. There are also night float rotations at both these levels. The UCSD chiefs have approximately one in-house call per month and also rotate out-of-house call.
2009–2010 Rotation Schedule
Except where noted otherwise, rotations on each level are of equitable length and take place at UCSD Medical Center (which includes the Hillcrest and Thornton Hospitals) or at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, and are a combination of in- and outpatient experiences. Most rotations include a Primary Care (continuity) Clinic.

Residents in obstetrics-gynecology are provided the opportunity to study in a variety of practice settings which include academic medicine and multi-specialty group practice. Varied patient care experience and academic training in these settings are beneficial in educating a well-rounded physician who is capable of choosing and performing well in a career in either of these environments.
